MATERIALS

RESOURCES FOR CONCRETE BOOKS

Many these resources deal primarily with industries but will work with individuals as best they can.  Be as specific about the intended use as possible when ordering or, if unsure, ask for a sample for experimentation.  Most suppliers can provide catalogues or information sheets upon request, or have web sites where you can down load information.

POLYMER ADDITIVES- can be purchased at your local home improvement center.  Acrylic or latex polymers differ in the amount of solids they contain, creating different consistencies in your mix.  Experimenting with different polymers will help you to choose the one that works best for you.  The two sources below have been developed and used by sculptors with good success.

ALKALI-RESISTANT (AR) MESH – AR mesh has been treated so that the alkali in concrete will not break this reinforcing material.  Some AR meshes are more effective with polymer fortified concretes.  Some home improvement centers carry 2” AR self adhesive fiberglass tape to use with cement board installation.
